BACKGROUND

INSEAD is a global leader in delivering impactful learning experiences for business executives and students around the world. Consistently top-ranked, the institution fosters digital transformation, innovation, and global perspectives through its Executive Education programmes and Master Programmes.

As one of the largest business schools globally, INSEAD enrolls over 1,000 participants annually in their master’s programmes. The school is equally committed to executive education, with over 10,000 executives participating in their open and online programmes each year. This exposure to rich global perspectives and diverse cultures equips graduates for successful careers across the globe.

Since 2017, INSEAD has partnered with us to leverage our paid media expertise, enhancing lead generation for their Executive Education and Master Programmes, including renowned courses such as the MBA, Executive MBA, Executive Master in Finance, Executive Master in Change, Master in Management, and the dual-degree Tsinghua-INSEAD Executive MBA.

Challenges + Goals

INSEAD Executive Education programme relied on Google Search as its main driver for leads, but there were concerns that best practices were not being implemented, leading to challenges such as low-quality leads, inefficient budget use, and a lack of actionable insights.

To address these challenges, INSEAD approached us to restructure their global accounts, make improvements across all campaign entities, and expand to historically challenging markets, such as the USA.

We were asked to work with one key point of contact but also regularly communicate with several stakeholders responsible for over 50 Executive Education programmes — all with varying keyword themes and audience profiles.

This initial phase was crucial in demonstrating our ability to enhance lead generation efforts via Google Search, a channel whose effectiveness was under scrutiny. Our key challenges were to increase leads and participants, expand new programme campaigns, and target new markets all within the budget as the previous year.

Building on our success with Executive Education, INSEAD extended our collaboration to their Masters Programmes to facilitate school level synergies in search, reflecting trust in our ability to drive significant improvements across both areas.

While the key objectives of the Master Programmes were similar to those of the Executive Education, there was an added focus on improving reporting accuracy by integrating CRM data with Google Search insights. This approach aimed to provide a clearer picture of the search campaigns’ performance, facilitate synergies across different programmes, and ensure effective communication among stakeholders.

strategy + execution

To foster a partnership where all stakeholders were committed to continuous improvement, our strategy was comprehensive and included:

  • Establishing regular communication with programme marketing managers and directors through weekly calls and quarterly reviews to deeply understand programme dynamics across the portfolio before and after restructuring.
  • Conducting an extensive audit to identify and rectify technical and structural deficiencies in existing campaigns and accounts.
  • Creating a consistent campaign management framework to streamline optimization, expansion, execution, and reporting on a large scale. Setup account structure that supports campaign management and expansion across multiple regions around the globe
  • Performing in-depth keyword research to uncover new themes, landing page opportunities, and develop new ad creatives.
  • Setting up comprehensive negative keyword lists to prevent spending on irrelevant searches or incorrectly triggering keywords in the wrong campaign.
  • Helping INSEAD better understand the true value of search as an acquisition channel, we blended CRM data with ad campaign data. This integration provided accurate monthly reports and an interactive dashboard, optimizing lead management and nurturing processes and increasing high-quality leads.

Due to the ongoing expansion of the account, we could not afford to let it outgrow our capabilities. We had to be proactive and think ahead of the client’s needs and requirements. This necessity drove us to develop bespoke code and processes to innovate how we manage large-scale accounts with complex structures and data sets while retaining our agility to provide granular insights for optimization and reporting.

This proactive approach for the Executive Education programme enabled the account size to more than double, achieved a 13% growth in participants with the same budget, and led to a 35% increase in share of voice on Google.

In the Master Programmes campaign, our focus on iteration and continuous improvement was key. By prioritizing the right tasks, we exceeded our initial qualified leads target by 19% and increased average monthly unique leads by 55%.

We continued to expand beyond search and display to cover other paid media channels, reflecting our commitment to INSEAD. We value our strong relationship with them and look forward to supporting their continued success.

Background

Swarovski delivers a diverse portfolio of unmatched quality, craftsmanship, and creativity. Founded in 1895 in Austria, Swarovski designs, manufactures, and markets high-quality crystals, genuine gemstones and created stones as well as finished products such as jewelry, accessories and lighting.

Challenges + Goals

Swarovski approached us for the following:

  • Expand reach while keeping the Search Engine Advertising (SEA) activities at a profitable level (positive ROAS)
  • Maximize efficiency and scalability of the campaign implementation, optimization and analysis processes
  • Attribute performance online, across channels and devices

Strategy + Execution

Swarovski wanted to expand reach, while maintaining similar amount of ROAS. We suggested an annual strategy, allocating budget based on historical performance. For instance, keeping more budget allowance for November and December for occasions such as Cyber Monday, Black Friday, Christmas and New Years holidays. We also suggested minimizing the spend on slower months. Theoretically if the ad spend goes up, ROAS will go down. But with our intensive keyword research and data analysis, we were able to expand our reach, while improving the performance.

To do so, we:

  • Re-organized product feed on Google ads to deliver shopping ads to the most relevant search queries (e.g., some products were placed in the wrong category).
  • Analyzed historical data to eliminate hundreds of non-converting keywords to generate high ROAS.
  • Initiated keyword implementation on cultural trends (Main character on Crash Landing on You, a Netflix series used Swarovski products. Search demand increased for the [actresses name + earring] on the search engine and we were able to deliver Swarovski products at top position.
  • Non-brand expansions were a key focus to capture new users looking for accessories. Our strategy included product keywords such as necklaces and earrings, but also new type of seasonal keywords such as Christmas Gift, Coming of Age Gift, Graduation Gift for Women in 20s.

How to Optimize Your Google Business Profile in 2023

How to Optimize Google Business Profile in 2023 – APAC in 3 – Episode 18

Did you know that 97% of Internet users search for local businesses online, and over 86% of them use Google Maps? This makes a Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) an essential tool for getting your business found locally on Google Search and Maps.

Google ranks profiles based on relevance, geographical proximity, along with other signals like user engagement and quality of information. So, even if your business has already claimed and completed a profile, you should look at optimizing it to ensure it’s performing at its best.

In our latest APAC in 3 (EP 18), discover how to optimize your Google Business Profile in 2023 to rank higher on local search and find new customers for your business. For a more detailed overview, read on!

Tip #1: Update and Optimize Your Basic Information

A complete and verified business profile is vital for your business to appear on Google Maps and within a local pack at the top of Google’s search engine results pages, or SERPs.

What are Local Packs: Local packs are Google SERP features that display business locations most relevant to a user’s geographically defined search query (e.g., “dentists in Singapore”), along with a Google map pinpointing their addresses.

Nothing frustrates users quite like searching for a company only to find that the information provided is wrong or outdated. It’s more common than you think for a phone number or street address to be incorrect or an old location not to be marked as closed, so be sure to claim your profile and manage it closely.

Your business name field must be your actual business name and void of keywords, so picking a main category that best fits will help Google match your listing with the most appropriate search terms.

Next, your company description should include what you do, who your offerings are for, and a call-to-action, all while ensuring it contains essential keywords to help users find your profile when searching for relevant products or services.

The description is limited to 750 characters long, and the first 250 are the most important, so make sure you front-load your key information. If you’re a restaurant, for instance, mention your ambiance, menu options, and special services before your history.

Pro tip: After updating and optimizing your basic information,   them ASAP via any of Google’s available options, including post, email, or phone.

Tip #2: Showcase Your Business with Photos and Videos

Images and videos bring credibility to your listing and help users as well as Google learn more about your business and its offerings.

Upload high-resolution photos and videos of your location, products or services, and even your team. Uploading photos of your location’s exterior lets potential customers know what to expect when they arrive for the first time.

Photo guidelines:

Size: Between 10KB and 5MB. Recommended resolution: 720 px tall, 720 px wide. The photo should be in focus and well lit, and have no significant alterations or excessive use of filters.

Video guidelines:

Duration: Up to 30 seconds long. File size: Up to 75 MB. Resolution: 720p or higher.

Variety in your photos also helps Google since it automatically picks photos to show on your listing based on what it deems would best answer a user’s search query. Say, if a user searched “Nike Paragon Interior”, it would show photos of the store interior before anything else.

Google Vision AI is a tool that can help you understand how Google interprets your photo—just upload an image to the free demo, and it’ll tell you the keywords Google can derive from the image.

Pro tip: Use Vision AI to select photos with keywords relevant to your desired search terms.

Tip #3: Spur Engagement to Win More Customers

After completing your profile and putting your business on the map, spur engagement on it to stand out from competitors and increase your foot traffic.

Leverage your Q&A section to let customers ask questions about your business. But be wary—they too can answer questions asked by others, so it’s a good idea for you as the expert to be the first to address each question.

To keep your answers at the top, upvote them since the most-liked answers appear as the primary response. Do the same for questions since those with three likes or more usually appear prominently on your listing in place of the standard “See All Questions” link.

Asking your own questions grants you greater control over the conversation surrounding your business, so post your most-asked questions followed by their model answers to set up a pre-site FAQ page.

Questions will vary by business types, some examples include:

  • Do you ship worldwide?
  • What is your return or refund policy?
  • What payment options do you accept?
  • Do you offer gluten-free options?

Similarly, responding to your customer reviews not only potentially wins back loyalty from past customers but also conveys transparency to those just getting to know more about you.

And lastly, use the updates feature to share your latest news, promotional offers, or events, which comprise a thumbnail and brief description that pop up to a full-sized image and lengthier text when clicked.

Pro tip: Updates appear at the bottom of your profile panel on desktop and in a dedicated tab in the Google Maps app.

***

Whether setting it up for the first time or improving an existing listing, a business profile is your best friend for scaling your online presence, so be sure to revisit it from time to time and leverage the latest features from Google!

Chilling & Grilling: HK Office Is All Fired Up!

Our Hong Kong team by the grill!

Winter is fast-approaching, and that means it’s outdoor BBQ season (for those of us in sub-tropical Hong Kong at least!).

Our HK office enjoyed an early evening of tasty food, board games, and teambuilding—on a roof terrace comfortably surrounded by the Causeway Bay skyline but just as relaxing as barbequing at any beach or country park.

There was no shortage of teamwork throughout the event either, as the guys got together to stock up on groceries and drinks, food prep, fire up the grill, and cook themselves a hearty dinner.

What a fun mid-week refresher and unique team-bonding experience—check out these snapshots from their evening by the grill!

Teambuilding Fun on the Bowling Lanes

the egg teambuilding bowling event

From left to right (clock-wise):
HK office group photo, SG team cosmic bowling, SG team regular bowling

What better way to have a little fun while growing with your team than playing a few friendly games of bowling? That’s exactly what our Hong Kong and Singapore teams did (at similar times too)—suppose bowling was right up their “alley”! 🎳🌟

The SG team enjoyed bowling so much that they gathered twice—once for regular bowling and another for a cosmic bowling experience. And while they let their bowling skills do the talking, they couldn’t help but throw friendly taunts at each other—”That’s how you do it!”.

Meanwhile, everyone from the HK office split into four randomized teams that battled against each other. Despite every team putting up a good fight, it turns out Team 1 was stacked with bowling pros and newbies with a hidden talent for bowling, scoring strike after strike, and blowing the competition out of the water. We definitely need to see about that “randomization” part for future games! 😂

Both offices had a blast knocking down pins and spurring some friendly competition, but the greater joy was seeing all the smiles and laughter that brought everyone closer together. 😀

Check out these snapshots from their fun day out!

Holly Jolly Christmas Celebrations at The Egg

The Egg Christmas

Who’s in the holiday spirit? We definitely are!

Our Eggmates who live and work across Asia celebrated Christmas in style with gift exchanges, fun and games, hearty feasts, and a drink (or two!) in hand. Perhaps you see some familiar faces across our teams? 🙂

Christmas is all about giving and receiving, so what better way to spice up our parties (and competitive spirits) than to play Secret Santa?

Wrapped up and ready to go, our Eggmates took turns exchanging (or stealing!) each other’s gifts—and there was no shortage of superb gifts: Bluetooth earbuds, a checkerboard plate, a karaoke microphone, a film camera, bath salt, spiderman figurines, a massage cushion, and mint chocolate-flavored Soju, to name a few.

And there were more quirky ones exchanged too, like the pocket-sized book of insults, the palm-sized USB ‘Enter’ key, and a blanket shaped like a fried egg (a brand-friendly addition to our office!)

Our Eggmates had a great time together, and we wish you all a happy holiday from our family to yours!

Fun & Games with the Singapore Team!

SG team

Is it April Fool’s already? Our Singapore team unleashed their inner trickery by playing “Two Truths, One Lie” during a virtual meet-up to celebrate their November birthdays: Sing Yee (A), Julia (B), Keith (C), and Richard (D).

They took turns sharing three fun facts about themselves—but only two were true! The group then guessed which statement was a lie (or rather, a fantasy!).

A good lie is one that’s believable—Jia Hui knocked it out of the park with her lie about adopting two dogs, which only Keith guessed right!

We’ll let you guess who the rest of the truths/lies belong to! 😉

A good truth will sound outrageous, but is something that you actually have done—like crashing a car while tuning the radio, staying in a house haunted by Dutch ghosts, being a marksman or a martial arts gold medalist, or shaking hands with Prince William.

And there were more hilarious lies thrown around, from claiming to be a freelance home organizer to having a side hustle as a seamstress to holding a sports pilot license, and (perhaps most hysterical) claiming to share the same name as her parents’ poultry company.

Our SG folks had a blast together (socially distanced for the time being!). Happy birthday to the November babies, and we look forward to in-person meetups soon.
